From 3 - 4 August 2024, Spartan Melbourne Urban will be held in Werribee for the first time at the beautiful Werribee Racecourse.
Battle it out on the course, then celebrate with your fellow Spartans with a weekend of outdoor adventures and good eating in Werribee and Surrounds.
EAT & DRINK
Café Culture
A short four-minute drive from the course, you’ll find Watton Street – the ‘Eat Street’ of Melbourne’s West, with an excellent café scene. Grab a coffee and brunch from Notorious Espresso, The Social Sutra, Wolf on Watton or Chatterbox Café, or grab a quick bite from Acai Bliss Café, Lebanese bakery Manoushi, Three Little Pigs or a gourmet sandwich from Tuckers. Tuckers is also a great option for young Spartans with their Kids Toastie Box with waffle fries – yum!
Pub Grub, Dinner, and a Nightcap
Looking for something a little heartier? Get your crew together and settle in at The Park Werribee with 36 taps on offer, grab a spot by the fireplace at the art deco Bridge Hotel Werribee or enjoy dinner with a view at Rosana Bistro and Bar – all an easy drive away on Watton Street.
In central Werribee you’ll also find traditional Italian at Tocca, tacos and tequila at Casa Cantina and gourmet pizza and cocktails at Teddy Pickers. Or indulge in a nightcap at the secret wine bar, Corked Wine Bar.
A Little Bit Fancy
If you’re looking to treat yourself, then try out Shadowfax Winery open Friday nights for dinner and lunch Friday to Sunday (bookings recommended), or the highly acclaimed Joseph’s Dining within the Werribee Park Precinct or alternatively head down to Werribee South to 3030 Waterfront nestled right on the harbour, with views of Melbourne’s cityscape overlooking Port Phillip Bay.
THINGS TO DO
Werribee Park Precinct is a must do, with the grand Werribee Park Mansion, Victoria State Rose Garden, Shadowfax Winery and Werribee Open Range Zoo to explore, along with the Werribee Visitor Information Centre.
Go on a wild African safari at Werribee Open Range Zoo on the Safari Bus Tour (included in entry), or meet iconic Australian natives including koalas and kangaroos.
Take time to soak up the rich history of the 1800s Italian Renaissance style Werribee Park Mansion and it’s stunning grounds including Werribee Park Heritage Orchard or visit after dark as part of the interactive theatre experience, What was That? (bookings required).
For aviation thrills head down to the RAAF Museum or B24 Liberator Memorial Australia, both open Thursdays and Sundays, with bookings essential to visit the RAAF Museum (free entry).
Or keep the competition rolling with championship-length greens at Werribee Park Golf Course and Sanctuary Lakes Golf Course or a round of mini golf at The Elements Coastal Activity Park at Wyndham Harbour.
WHERE TO STAY
There are options to suit all budgets.
Centrally located in the heart of Werribee just a short five-minute drive from the course you’ll find Quest Werribee, Holiday Inn Werribee, Werribee Park Motor Inn or Werribee Motel and Apartments.
A little further afield are the Werribee South Caravan Park and Holiday Lifestyle Wyndham Cove Werribee South.
For a weekend of indulgence, the Lancemore Mansion Hotel Werribee Park with its luxe L.M. Spa is not to be missed.
